WILL TRADE ART FOR YOUR OLD RAPIDOGRAPH PENS!

Attention! Attention!
My trusty .30 Rapidograph pen (Koh-I-Noor), is officially dead. Anyone want to trade a set of their old Rapidograph pens for some original artwork? I'm sure some artists out there have some old pens that they never use!

"Fireflies"

Since we got a few inches of snow today, Rachel and I are staying in. In between episodes from season 4 of West Wing, I am going through some old drawings and paintings. Here are a few:

These images are from another book that I was working on a while back. This one was called "Fireflies" and it followed a late night with Rachel and I, driving up into the woods at the base of the Appalachian mountains. (oh, and these were all done with pen and ink and guache for those who care).

This is from the title page:

This is what fireflies look like up close:

This page read: "Rachel smooshed some firelflies on her face while they were still lit up. I laughed a little, but it was actually kinda' gross."

rare french super 8mm home movies.

Here is a short excerpt from a book that I was working on 3 or 4 years ago about Lionel and Jonathan.

same joke, done differently

I've done this joke before, but I'm experimenting with different formats and thought you'd like to see.

my work has returned to me!

Much thanks to my good pal, Tim, who took the trouble to completely take down my show that was up in TN, and then babysat all of my artwork. He even did all of this in spite of the fact that he and his wife were moving (and had to haul the boxes of my art from their old house to their new one!).

After a week of few updates: A whole slew!

ARGYLE ACADEMY LAND PREVIEW!

Most of you all know that we've been working on the new costumes for the Argyle Academy theme park that is opening in Fall of 2013 day and night! Well, the first costume, Matthew, got leaked by CNet and Wired last night, so we decided to go ahead and post them here as well. Enjoy!

As you can see, the costume is designed to hide the actor as much as possible. If you saw this in person, you would think that this was an actual octopus that wears a small sailor hat and is always sweaty. I've already built a prototype of this in my basement studio using cardboard, felt, glue, push pins, macaroni, the usb connector from my scanner, string, twine, yarn, balsa wood, a rubber stamp, human beard hair, a postcard from Scandinavia that says "please don't over-medicate yourself on our soil!", some headphones I stole from my brother, a Dashboard and Capt Beefheart mix CD, a dime, two quarters, some newspaper, a DVD box set of Little Britain, a Bob Barker-style microphone, a dog named A'flaps, a graphic calculator, a jr high school gym shirt and shorts set, one pinto bean (possibly a navy bean), scotch tape, a kiln, three rubber bands, a jack o' lantern (perfectly preserved in a glacier), the chicken pox, a handful of micromachines, scissors, some rocks, some precious jewels and gems, and belt buckle that says "Berlin is for Germans" (German belt buckles aren't very clever).

who's this guy?

Any guesses who this is?

what happened to your eye?

Some of you may have heard that in 2000, just a few months after Rachel and I got married, we had a friend over who accidentally tossed a playing card that cut me across the eye. This illustration shows what it would've been like if two identical twins happened to see me wearing an eye patch and asked me about it at exactly the same time.

show opens - tomorrow night!

Tomorrow night I'll be downtown for a group show that features myself and a friend, jym davis.

You should join us. More info here: www.dcartscenter.org

Why is there a picture of Rachel wearing a sleeping mask for the show image? No idea.

Secondly, a congrats is in order for long-time friend and long-time collaborator William Haun for winning the Asthmatic Kitty (home to Sufjan Stevens and good friend Half handed cloud) Rafter Video Contest! Be sure to visit the AK website to view his entry (there are links on the front page for better quality versions).
