DRAWING FROM JAPAN

In 2009 I went to Japan with my friend Brandon. Our last day there we stopped at a little coffee shop, and I saw a cork board with a bunch of index cards with notes written in Japanese.

I drew a little comic and posted it. A few nights ago I got an email from the Philippines from someone who was was traveling in Japan, saw my comic, and took a picture of it. Pretty insane.

The guy who sent me this is a designer/illustrator, too. Check out his stuff here.

ARGYLE ACADEMY TOTE // ltd edition

AWESOME // new work

The only downfall of the type of projects that I generally work on (stationary, books) is that they take soooo long to come out. Sometimes stuff will be done for over a year before it's released and before I'm allowed to post it on the site. But, the wait usually pays off and it's great to have hard copy stuff in the end.

I just finished up a new "paper goods" project for one of my favorite clients, but it'll be a while before I can show the entire thing. Here's a tiny sneak peeeeek:

50 HOT DOGS FOR 50 STATES // hot dog horse

I recently finished up a project for an advertising agency where I drew 50 hot dogs representing each of the 50 states. I ended up drawing roughly 80 or so in the process, I think. I also ended up eating hot dogs three times (the project lasted over three days).

Here are all of the states as hot dogs (can you get all of the references?):

And here's a close-up of one of my favorites:

PILLOWCASE MAN // a ribbit rabbit review by lily, isaac, and gracie

Last night I got a great email with a link to a review of Ribbit Rabbit.

The review is by Lily (8), Isaac (12), Gracie (10) and their dad.

(here's a little highlight)
Isaac (age 12): By Candace Ryan. Illustrated by Mike Lowery.
Gracie (age 10): I love the way he did those pictures.
Lily: They kind of look like kid drawings.
Gracie: They do.
Lily: But they look like awesome kid drawings.
Gracie: It's not just a scribble.

They even did some awesome drawings!!!
Check these out (larger versions are in the review).
